STORYMAKER+ REVISION HISTORY
============================
---------------------------------------------------------------
1/20/94 Version 2.2
---------------------------------------------------------------
New Features:
* Storybooks can now be compiled into royalty-free, stand-alone
programs (EXE executable files).
* Help screens can now be saved to a disk file.
Bugs fixed:
* Sound Blaster Pro at interrupt line IRQ10 or DMA channels
other than channel 1 freezes system when playing speech or
digital sound.
* With some mouse drivers, the program tracks the mouse posi-
tion incorrectly.
* When animating a shape in the Book Editor, clicking below
the direction arrow icons places the shape outside the screen.
Minor changes:
* Slow scrolling added when selecting items in List dialogs.
* Error message added when Setup is unable to configure for
Sound Blaster card.
---------------------------------------------------------------
10/25/93 Version 2.1
---------------------------------------------------------------
New features:
* The graphics editor can now import standard PCX files to the
clipboard.
File changes:
* Installation utility INSTALL.EXE changed to an initialization
utility SMINIT.EXE to avoid confusion.
Major bugs fixed:
* On program start-up in some computers running on protected
mode , the main screen is displayed but the mouse goes dead.
This had the effect of the program appearing to hang up though
pressing the ESC key should exit to DOS.
* Loading a clipboard picture in the graphics editor several
times causes the program to terminate abnormally because of
memory allocation error. This was caused by previous clip-
board pictures not being properly released.
Minor bugs fixed:
* Last sound segment repeats when playing sound effects in the
foreground with the PC speaker.
* An extra line added when flipping an odd-width clipboard
picture in the graphics editor.
* No speed range checking in the Script Dialog animator.
* Spray brush in graphics editor is sometimes distorted.
* Assigned colors in the Graphics Editor recoloring brush some-
times incorrect.
* When animating an object in the Book Reader, the part of the
object lying outside the picture frame may still remain visi-
ble when animation ends and sound effects continues.
---------------------------------------------------------------
9/26/93 Version 2.0
---------------------------------------------------------------
Changes on program registration. New flat registration fee.
Registered users also get bonus pictures and sound effects, and
a bonus special version of Voicemaker. Voicemaker is a separate
speech program where users can learn about the mechanics of
English phonetics by recording with their own voices the phoneme
files used in Voicemaker's text-to-speech player. Registered
users of Storymaker+ can also use the phoneme files in place
of Storymaker+'s text-to-speech internal file. A Sound Blaster
card and a microphone for recording are required hardware.
Expanded and enhanced help module. Program graphics interface
cleaned up.
More graphics in the sample picture library; also enhanced demo
story.
In the graphics editor, scrolling was added to the Zoom editor.
A New Picture command was also added to clear all cells in the
Shape Editor. Bugs fixed: the clipboard picture was sometimes
messed up after using the shape animator; when creating a new
picture library, duplicate file checking was not working right.
A new phoneme file for the text-to-speech player.
A foreground mode was added when outputting speech through the
PC speaker - sound is clearer at a cost of slower animations.
To accomodate computers with slow CPU's, digital sound effects
(VOC files), can now be played in the foreground mode also when
using the PC speaker. This eliminates the problem of the system
crashing in slow computers when sound effects are played in the
background mode. Sound is also clearer but animations must run
after, not at the same time as, sound effects.
A few minor changes and bugs fixes.
------------------------------------------------------------
04/01/93 Version 1.2 List of bug fixes and modifications.
------------------------------------------------------------
Some non-essential data files were omitted to make the overall
size of the package smaller.
A number of fixes and modifications in the Melody Maker including
a fix on the system clock's substantial loss of time, a fix on
the program terminating abnormally when saving a melody is
cancelled, a fix on files not being properly saved if the maximum
number of characters is used in the melody title, a modification
to make the use of melody keys consistent.
A check on the size of the page script was added in the Book Editor:
without the check, a page would not save properly if the script
size is overly large.
A change on program functions when the option to turn off the sound
is enabled. Now with the sound turned off, the program will
function effectively the same as with the sound on - execution
timing is no longer affected. The only exception is the playing of
CMF files as Storymaker+ has only limited control over Sound
Blaster's FM driver.
Sounds now can be selectively turned off in the text-to-speech
player, melody player or the digital sound player. The individual
settings are also saved in the setup file.
Install utility was modified to facilitate updating of older
versions. It no longer checks for existing Storymaker+
subdirectories. Check was done before to prevent writing over of
existing files - it should not be needed in this version.
A number of minor fixes and cosmetic changes.
